Young people nowadays
are prone to mental disorders, particularly Overthinking. Anxiety, having
struggles in decision-making, losing the ability to focus, feeling of
loneliness, unloved, hopelessness, purposelessness, worthlessness, negative
perceptions, suicidal thoughts, etc. are indications of Overthinking. Now,
there are a lot of factors that could trigger Overthinking to seize one's life.
Five of these are the social media, family issues, problems at school, tons of
things that has to be done, and spiritual issues. I myself had already
experienced this kind of mental disorder and I gladly found ways on how to
handle and cope up with this. So, I listed below the six ways that I do every time
overthinking attacks me. Like phrases or sayings, these ways might be cliché
for you, but I do believe that these are effective ways to pamper your sore
mind from overthinking.
Let it Out!
When you are suffering
from overthinking, tears will flow like a river especially at night because
evening is a silent time for your mind to recreate pictures that could awaken overthinking to bother you all night long. So, when you feel like your heart is
shrinking, let those tears roll on your face and after that you will feel that your burdens are lighten up.
Limit Yourself with the Social Media
Youths are found to be
more addicted with Social media than the adults and Social media are the most
influential instruments nowadays; these are good in terms of communication, but
still they have bad sides. Based on my own experiences and observations, I have
proven that Social media develop the sense of insecurity within a person
wherein, this person compares himself/herself to someone who’s far different
from him/her and this will cause low self-esteem and loss of self-confidence
resulting to overthinking; moreover, these give opportunity for the people
to commit cyber crimes, such as cyber-bullying. The victims of this sort of
crime become anxious and traumatic and eventually tend to kill or isolate
themselves from the people around them. That’s why overuse or addiction of
Social media can ruin one’s life.
Turn Negatives into
Positives
There are so many ways
to turn bad things into beautiful ones. Overflowing thoughts can be paints and
pens, in other words, bad memories, experiences, and problems can be the source
of inspiration and motivation. Do you believe in that? As for me, when I feel
anxious, broken, worthless, and unloved, I just get my pen and my paper and
write down my thoughts into poems. By that, I suddenly feel like my burdens
were lessen. Do not just lay, cry and lock yourself in your room, instead take
all your negative emotions as opportunities to create amazing stuff. Out of
dark times, make something beautiful!
Indulge Yourself
Do not abuse yourself.
When you're thinking of so many things and you don't know when and how to start
your works; when you feel stressed, helpless and doomed, and when you feel
exhausted and your brain is drained, stop for a while. Relax yourself. Give
yourself a break or else you want to die problematic. If there are a lot of
things that you need to accomplish, spare an hour to prepare yourself. In my
own experience, when I have so many things to do, I lose my focus and
motivation. So before I begin to work on my stuff, I do things that I love to do
like photography, singing a song with my guitar, playing with my cats, or eat
my favorite snacks just to relieve my sore mind, and of course to prepare
myself for a bloody battle.
Be Yourself, Be Content
Create a positive atmosphere. Always be thankful and grateful to what you have. Be yourself, do not pretend to be someone that you're not. Show your true color; expose the real you, because if you keep on pretending, in the end you will suffer. Do not expect and do not make things that people could expect more from you.
It is very important
that you have someone to talk with when you are experiencing this disorder. Do
not make it like a diary; do not keep your burdens within yourself, instead,
share it with your loved ones; with the person you trust. But what I mean lover
on the title is the One who loves you very much! It’s God. By reading His Words,
He’s talking to you, and by praying, you are talking to Him. Have conversation with
Him not just when you feel worthless, unloved, purposeless, and lonely, rather
talk with Him always. He would lift your burdens up, He would heal your heart,
and He’s the only one who could give you rest. He takes away insecurity,
because in His eyes you’re perfect, when you feel unworthy, guilty,
purposeless, lonely, and unloved, in Him you are very much loved. If you commit
your life to Him, I swear overthinking will get rid of you!
Consult a Counselor
If overthinking is
getting worse and you can’t handle it anymore, consult to an expert counselor.
She/he can give you the most appropriate treatment for this kind of disorder. But keep in mind that God is the Best Counselor!
Those suggested ways
above are just alternative ways to uplift yourself and temporarily lessen
your burdens. I hope these could help You!
