A Showcase of My Progress in Assessment II

Hello there! You are about to see my academic progress in Assessment II. I’m just a simple person; an average student who wants and needs to pass and survive every semester. I am not that committed to this career I’ve chosen but I’m doing my best to at least excel in this course. To graduate, to help my parents, to help everyone who’s in need, and to adapt more stray cats, those are my goals in life for now.
Rica Reyes Gardanozo
People call me Cay, Rics, Kakay, Kikay, and Choy but my real name is Rica Reyes Gardanozo. It was the time of prosperity where people receive lots of penny; it was the time where stars twinkle in the clear evening sky and the cold breeze seizes the night; it was the time where Christmas carols can be heard from house to house; it was a cold joyful night when I was born. December 22, 1998, 8:30 pm at Martin de Porres Hospital, Tarlac when I finally met the world. I currently residing at Barangay Bantog, Tarlac city in a simple house with my simple family.
18 years of existence, I only received one significant award; it happened when I graduated from elementary school. I was the third honor student in our batch. After that, I have not received any award, but I’m looking forward to the greatest award that is waiting for me which will granted by the One who created me. That would be the most significant award that I’ll be receiving.
Cliché it may sounds, but I believe that, “Life is a matter of choice”. If you want to live or to die, it’s up to you; if you want to be happy or to be misery, it’s up to you; if you want to love or to hate, it’s all up to you. Like a ship, I once was stocked on a shore which is my comfort zone, I chose to stay and live life as it is because I am afraid to sail and face the waves of the sea, like Peter (from the bible) when he was asked by Jesus to walk on the water in the midst of the storm, he’s afraid that he might sink.
My life is not far from the life of Peter. I have so many doubts in my life, I have so many “what ifs” in my mind like what if I sink? What if the storm will leave me shipwreck? What if I can’t do this or that? What if I fail? What if I’ll be nothing but disappointment?—these are the questions that keep on popping on my obscure mind, but one day, God called me to sail. I thought again about the waves and the storm, so I refused and chose to stay in the shore. Again, God called me and this time, I stood up and responded to God’s call. While happily sailing, the storm came—problems, trials, and temptations. From those storms and waves, I learned how to fight, I learned how to sail and give up my comfort zone, and I learned how to trust God with all my heart. This is my life. I chose to follow God for I know that His promise will not change .I believe that God lets the waves and the storms devastate my life because these will lead me to a better life. As it says from the bible, “All things work together for good to those who love God”.

#Quizzes and Exams

I got satisfactory scores in my quizzes. The reason behind these low but passing scores is that I did not review, obviously because if I reviewed, I won't get such low scores, but it's okay. It's my way of testing myself if I retained some information in my brain from the discussed lessons. If I have low scores, of course, I also have high scores, and I'm proud of that!

Okay lang yan, may next quizzes pa! Bawi ka!
This quiz was written at the back of my note book and it's about the Basic Concept of Assessment Method, Types of Evaluation, Types of Test, Principles of High Quality Assessment, Measures of Central Tendency, Interpretation of Graphs, and Measures of Variability. Out of 40, I got a28 score.

2nd Quiz
Walang Himala! Nagreview lang Talaga!
This quiz really overwhelmed me. Imagine? I only got four mistakes. I am so proud of this score. I think, I'm 2nd or 3rd of the highest score. Thank God!
Also, at the back portion of this paper, I wrote my reflection about the video clip that we watched.

This tells my learning in Assessment I
I am not surprisedd with my score in this pretest. I firmly admit that I have learned a little in Assessment I, but thanks to our instructor, sir Mark, by recalling and rediscussing the important terms and points in Assessment I, I was enlightened and I was able to organized all the shuffled pieces information in my mind that I have acquired in Assessment I.

R.I.P Score
R.I.P Score
This midterm examination in Assessment II was a disaster; it was an epic fail. I, as well as my friend, Patricia, thought that our first exam to be taken was the Curriculum Development. We are very surprised when we looked at our test paper and saw there, "Examination in Assessment II". Patricia shed a tear, and me, I laughed. It was really a disaster. I did not review that's why I got an almost failing grade.

#Assignments

I was so saddened with my scores in my assignments. May be, I did not just reach the standard of the rubric that our instructor has.

"It's not me, it's the rubric"
I was excited of this assignment. I was excited to post this knowing that I could have a high grade, because I exerted a lot of effort on this. I was so excited when our instructor was announcing the grades, but when  he said, "Gardanozo, 10". Oh shocks! I was really shocked. Why sir? why? he could've given me 15, but why 10?
At the end of our mid. term, sir Mark explained about this, then I was able to knew that it wasn't him, it was the rubric.

I did my best but I guess my best wasn't good enough.

Out of 20, I only got 12 points here. I really exerted an effort here, but I guess that wasn't enough to reach a high score. I spent hours here thinking of a concept; I only had plenty sleep to draw and color this, but then, the score is still low. My sleep, my effort are only worth 12 points.

Acrostic
In this assignment, I got  12/15. I'm happy with my score.

#Activities

Objectives of Affective Domain
Group Task

This was a group task. My groupmates, Jovel, Patricia, Gelaine, and Kim wrote objectives in Affective Domain. It was a challenging activity, but I loved it.

Objectives of Psychomotor Domain
GRASPS

This group task was about Performance-Based Task. Together with my groupmates, we brainstormed a best topic in line with our specialization and we came up with Spoken Word Poetry. After that, we wrote first, Objectives in Psychomotor Domain, and second, We design a performance task using the GRASPS model.

 Holistic Rubric
Analytic Rubric

In this group task, we created our own rubrics. We chose Argumentative Essay as a product to be rated using rubrics. We divided our task, my groupmates, Patricia and Angela did the Analytic Rubric, while Cristina and I did the Holistic Rubric. Luckily, we got 13 points for the Analytic Rubric and 10 points for the Holistic! Isn’t it amazing? Our scores are high!

Objectives of Psychomotor Domain
"Ang Bayani"

This was the actual application of the objectives that we created regarding psychomotor domain. I’ve been a lot of struggles in making this video. It’s supposed to be a group work, but I did it on my own because when we were about to make a video, I saw and I felt that my groupmates are so idle, they look like snails and I don’t want to see people like them, so I decided to do it alone but still, they it will be a group work. Another struggle is that, it did not want be uploaded. I was so doomed that day! So I needed to message our instructor via messenger, gladly, our instructor was kind. He understood me and allowed me to pass the video in a compact disk.
I wasn’t able to see our score. I wished I saw it.

Ngiting Tagumpay!
Efforts were well recognized!
Kudos 3-D2!

This whole class task perhaps is the most difficult situation that was given to us. It is difficult in terms of decision-making. This task almost clashed our section because of the performance that we should perform. Some are in Broadway, that includes me of course, but others are in Jazz Chant. In the end, we fell on Jazz Chant. Luckily, we won the first place.
Anyway, I was in the backdrop committee; I was the one who held the window during the performance. Also, I got a grade of 1.0. I did not react on that because, I believe I do deserve that grade.

#Reviewers

Reviewer for the Future!

These are my reviewers given by our instructor. These really helped me and will help me in reviewing for our LET. The information given there were complete and all things that are stated there were showed in our mid. Term exam.

Lecture for the Future!
Lecture for the Future!
Lecture for the Future!

These are my lectures and serve us reviewers for me.  My classmates always say, “kasipag mo namang magsulat”, that’s true, because if I don’t write, I feel like I’m not a student; I feel like I don’t study. Writing is one of my ways of retaining information in my brain.

#Report

1st Reporter

Rush pa More!

Since I don’t have a smartphone to document my report, and since my friends are so kind that they did not take photos of me, I just used my powerpoint presentation to show that I really reported.
I was the first reporter in our whole class and I just made my report the night before the day of my discussion, because our leader gave it so late, and I was so surprised when they said that I was the first discussant. “naloka” ako! I thought they were just joking. I wonder how they divided the topics. One thing for sure, That wasn’t fair. But there’s nothing I can do but to do what I was told to do.

#Reflection

. I’ve come so far in this pilgrimage and every struggle I faced, I learned so many things. I learned to have faith even more firm, I learned to be strong, I learned to be independent, I learned to be selfless, I learned to be committed, and I learned to love this path I took.
Now, for this subject, since this semester is about to end, Assessment II really helped me in my study, I’ve learned a lot of things that I could use in the actual field of teaching. This course also enlightened me about some of the topics in Assessment I, because honestly, I just learned a little from that subject. Regarding the whole class, I really had a lot of good memories that I could cherish whenever I feel tired and stressed out in this journey. Thank you to my “pabibo” but jolly classmates, this section is one of the best sections I’ve ever been before, even though sometimes or most of the time, they’re noisy and hard-headed.
To our instructor, Sir Mark Castillo, I’m not being “sipsip”, but I must say, among all the instructors or professors I have experienced, you are one of the best! Thank you for being kind, fair and gentle; thank you for your patience and thank you also for understanding us. You truly are every student’s ideal instructor, even though your standard is high. All throughout this semester, you never showed madness; you never showed that you are bothered by our noise and flubdub. Regarding the activities that were executed in the subject, I don’t know why other students were annoyed by those activities, in fact, those are chances to have high grades because I believe that the more activities a student does, the highest the possibility that he will pass and will have high grades. I really enjoyed those activities, but unfortunately, our instructor stopped executing activities because many students complaint because of those.
To end this up, this subject including our instructor played an important role in my progress and development as a prospective teacher. Those lessons that were taught are highly appreciated, and will be cherished as I continue to walk to the path of success.

This Class is one of the Bests!

"Sleep Paralysis and How to Deal with It"

Photo from feedfond.com
Growing up, I've been experiencing this what they so called Sleep Paralysis. I often encounter this sort of sleeping disorder and it's totally annoying! because I could not sleep well, it makes me feel like I'm dying, and it creeps me out! So I conducted a research about this phenomenon and found out some tips on how to deal with it, and that's what I'm going to share to you as you go on through this article.
When you are experiencing sleep paralysis, you are awake; you are conscious on the environment around you but you can neither speak nor move. In other words, you're half asleep and half awake. You want to shout so you could ask for help but you're unable to speak; you want to move your body, but it seems like your muscles aren't working. The worst thing that you don't want to happen when you are being attacked by this sleeping disorder is that some unidentified entities are appearing before your eyes. that's really creepy! They sometimes walk around your room, move toward you, stand in front of you, smiling at you, or sometimes they seem like they want to eat you or just suck your soul away from your body. Some people say that they have experienced entities that are sitting on their body while they're sleeping. Well me, I haven't experienced that yet, and I don't want to! it will freak me out! That would be the worst nightmare for me if that happened so. Anyway,  I remember when I experienced sleep paralysis, the worst entity I've encountered really frightened me was a woman—an old woman. Her back was turned, she has a very long white hair, and she's wearing a white gown. Little by little, she's turning to me, I awoke myself as quickly as I could because I don't wanna see her face. I really can't forget that! But those ghost or entities that you are seeing when you are sleeping aren't real; they are not existing. They just exist on your imagination. They are the result of your mind's hallucination while sleep paralysis is striking you. Everytime I woke up from sleep paralysis, I found out that the entities that I'm encountering were just the stuffs scattered in my room like the blanket, towels hanging on my bed, the pillows, the closet, the curtains, the fan, or my clothes. Those things seem moving or have scary faces because of our hallucinations. So those entities are need not to be scared of.
Furthermore, when people heard "Sleep Paralysis" their perception is a bit ridiculous. According to some people, when sleep paralysis is occuring, your soul is apart from your body. I do believe that that isn't true. That's a myth and has no scientific proofs. Of course, it is only when you're dead that your soul will depart from your body. The causes why you are experiencing sleep paralysis could be stress or depression, lack of sleep, bipolar disorder, narcolepsy, or you are just tired cause you had a long long day.
Now here are some tips to deal with sleep paralysis. These are just quick remedy when you're being attacked by this phenomenon, these are not long term treatments nor cure.

1. Wakeup!

It's really hard to wake up when you are experiencing sleep paralysis. What I do is I try my best to awake myself. I move my hands, my toes, or I take a deep breath until I finally woke up.

2. Have a Face Wash.

I've read about this tip on an article, and I find it effective!
Once you woke up, do not put yourself to sleep again or else, your sleep paralysis experience will, have a part 2. Do you want that to happen? Do you want to see those 'entities' again? If you don't, then get up and wash your face with water to awake and refresh yourself. After few minutes, you can hit the hay again, and have a good sleep!

3. Change your Sleeping Routine

One of the factors that could trigger sleep paralysis is the lack of  sleep or being sleepless. You should practice the 8-hour sleep. make it a goal! If your eyes are tired, your body is exhausted, and your bed is calling you to sleep, do not ignore them! have a rest, do not abuse yourself.

4. Pray! Pray! Pray!

I admit that I always forget to pray when I go to bed, especially when I'm tired. I'm guilty of that. When I was a kid and until now, everytime I'm having bad dreams or sleep paralysis, I do tell my mother about these and she always tells me to pray. It really works! Ask for peaceful sleep and creepiless dreams.

Those are just the things that I do when sleep paralysis is evading my good night sleep. If you're experiencing this annoying phenomenon everynight, go consult a psychiatrist or a psychologist because that's not normal. It only means that something seriously is happening to you.Experts could give you the best and effective treatment for your sleeping disorder.

Analysis of The Rain Shower (Sonagi) by Hwang Sun Won

The Rain Shower or popularly known in Korea as Sonagi, is a short story written by Hwang Sun Won—one of the greatest writers in Korea. The story was written in the year 1953 and was published in 1959 during the Korean War, and this story portrays the innocent love of two young people and the unfailing beauty of the nature.
Sonagi is a severe rain that comes in the afternoon and it suddenly stops. In the story, it symbolized the intimate adolescence love between two young people but their love story ended so soon and it showed the irony of fate that makes every individual’s heart faint. This remarkable love story touches the heart of many Koreans; it became famous; moreover, it became part of the required curriculum in Korea. A Korean film director, Ko Young Nam adapted the story into a film but he added twists to the characterizations. In the movie, the characters are adult and the ending is cry different from the original story; also, they made it a parody, and it was shown in the famous movie “My Sassy Girl”, it was also adapted into dramas, cartoons, and the band Boohwal made a song out of this story.
This story gave a strong impact to the emotions of every Koreans and it moved the hearts of the readers because of its poignancy. It is indeed one of the most unforgettable, most loved and most adored story in Korean literature.

SETTINGS
Place: Unknown rural area: Stream, Rice fields, Hilltop, School, and House
Day: Other days and Saturday
Time: Afternoon and Evening
Weather:  Sunny and Rainy
Season: Harvest season
Those settings mentioned above made the story somehow unique and they represent the simple but amazing life in a rural area. These settingsthe place, the time, the weather, and the day suit the concept of the story and they’re perfect enough to make the story extraordinary and unforgettable.

CHARACTERS AND CHARACTERIZATION

The author of the story (Hwan sun won) did not name the major and the minor characters; he only indicated the gender or identity of the characters which are the boy, the girl, the boy’s parents and the long bearded farmer, but there is one name mentioned in the story which is Mr.Yun or Yun’s family. Mr. Yun is just a passive character, his name was mentioned but in the story, he did not exist. Hwan sun won focused on the physical aspect or actions of the character rather than their mental and emotional aspects.

Ø  The Boy
The boy is the major character of the story. The boy completed the story and the story circulated around him—from the beginning up to the end. The boy is also considered as a flat or static character because he did not change. He is consistent with his attitudes and behavior until the story ended. furthermore, he’s simple and timid. He fell in love with the girl just at first sight.

Ø  The Girl
The girl is also considered as a major character because she contributed a significant role in the story. Without the girl the story will not flow smoothly. The girl is the one whom the boy fell in love to; therefore, if the girl did not exist, the story will not be interesting; also the girl made the story poignant. She’s frank, adventurous and she appreciates the boy’s effort.

Ø  Long Bearded farmer
The farmer is considered as a minor character. He showed in the middle of the story wherein he warned the boy of the coming shower. His role is not significant, he just signaled the conflict of the story.

Ø  The Father and the Mother
These two characters are considered as the minor characters. They just showed at the end of the story; however, their role is somehow important because they signal the end of the story. The story ended when these two characters talked about the girl and the tragedy happened in their family.

CONFLICTS
      (Man vs. Nature)
The author emphasized the beauty of nature, but he also used it as the root of the conflict in the story. In the story, from the first place, the author showed the aesthetic side of the nature (read the story).
The conflict started when the shower came. The two young people were playing in the hilltop. They’re seizing the beauty of the nature and they’re picking flowers. Suddenly, on their way home a heavy rain poured. They had nothing to hide themselves from the rain. They found a shack nearby and they sheltered themselves there. But still, they were soaked in the rain. The girl trembled and her lips turned blue. The rain stopped and the boy carried the girl in his back. After that, the girl did not show up. The boy was worried and so he looked her up in her classroom but he did not see her. He went to the stream where he first saw her. He saw the girl sitting on the stepping stone and he was relieved. He’s glad that finally after days missing her, he finally found her. The girl told the boy that she’s been sick for few days and they’re moving. After that talk, the girl did not show up again. The boy really felt deep sad of what he heard and he suddenly lost from his consciousness, he’s not aware of what he’s doing. He kept on thinking about the girl. One night, he secretly picked walnuts from Deoksoi’s tree—the best walnuts in their village. He wanted to give them to the girl but he forgot to tell the girl that they should see each other to the stream before the girl moves.
One night, while he’s lying in his bed, the boy thought of going in the house of the girl because he badly wants to see her when he heard his parents talking about the Yun’s family and at the end of their conversation, they mentioned the girl and the tragedy happened to her and to her family.

POINT OF VIEW
The author used the third person limited point of view. Although there are two major characters, the author expressed only the thought of the single character which is the boy. He knows what the boy is doing and thinking. He focused to the boy regardless to the other characters.
It is noticeable in the middle part of the story that the author used third person limited point of view when the two kids split after they had their last talk. The focused blamed on the boy. The author expressed there the emotion of the boy “On his way home after parting from the girl, the boy found himself repeating countless times to himself, ‘The girl is moving house.’ He did not feel particularly regretful or sorrowful. However, the boy was unaware of the sweetness of the jujube he was chewing”(Page 5). The girl’s point of view was not shown. Questions will pop in readers’ mind: What happened to the girl after parting with the boy? What did the girl feel? What happened to her when she’s lying on her bed or how she suffered from her illness? Does the girl felt something towards the boy?, these might be the questions that will enter in readers’ mind. Well, it’s the author’s technique to make his story mysterious.
The author used this point of view because he wants his reader to feel the outcomes from the point of view of the other characters and he want to leave his readers wondering about the feelings or emotions of the other characters and interpret the emotions or actions of the other characters by the boy’s eyes.

PLOT
EXPOSITION
The boy spies the girl on the stream everyday. One day, the girl noticed the boy hiding behind the reeds and then he throw pebbles towards him. Saturday came, the boy went again in the stream to see the girl but she was not there. Later on, he saw the reflection of the girl on the water and she’s coming over. The boy run and he fell on the water because he skipped one stepping stone on the stream. Another day came, at the same place, the boy went there and this time. The girl spoke to him and ask him to go to the hilltop.

RISING ACTION
The two young people walk to reach the hilltop. As they walk, they play and run around the rice fields. Finally, they have reached the hilltop, the boy picked some flowers and he handed them to the girl. They were so happy seeing the beautiful scenery down the hilltop. The girl, was about to pick a flower when she slipped on a steep slope. Her knee was wounded, the boy suck the blood flowing on the girl’s knee and gave her an herbal medicine. Soon they decided to go home and the boy carried the girl to the calf. The owner of the calf came and told them to go home because of a coming shower.

CLIMAX
Their surroundings turned dark, clouds became thick and grey, strong wind started to blow and suddenly a heavy rain poured out. They found a ruined shack, they had no choice but to fit themselves there. Afterwards, the girl trembled. The boy wrapped his coat around the girl and the girl stared to the boy (she’s starting to fall in love with the boy). The shack is too narrow for the both of them so, the boy went inside and he let himself soaked with rain. The girl ordered him to get inside, but he did not follow. Again, the girl ordered him to get inside and at last he followed. A later time, the rain subsided. The fields were flooded and the ditch was overflowed. The boy carried the girl on his back.
After that day, the girl did not show up. The boy searched for her in the school but she’s not there. He went to the stream where he first saw her, she was there sitting on a stepping stone. She told the boy that she’s sick and her family decided to move to a town. The boy and the girl felt downcast and sorrowful as they parted. The boy thought of the girl after the parted. Evening came, the boy went to Deoksoi’s walnuts tree secretly to pick some walnuts. He wanted to give them to the girl. All night long, the boy thought about the girl, he even lost his consciousness as if he’s hypnotized. He did not even care of having a rash while he’s peeling walnuts with his hands. He really wanted to see the girl but he remembered: he forgot to say that they should meet before the girl leaves.

FALLING ACTION
One day, he returned home from school. He saw his father wearing a formal attire and his holding a chicken. He asked his father if where he was going but his father did no answer him. He turned to her mother and uttered the same question. His mother told him that his father will go to the Yuns family and they said that they will move the next day. The boy again thought about the girl, He is awake yet he is not with himself. He touched the walnut on his pocket and with his other hand he’s breaking the reed’s stem.

ENDING (RESOLUTION)
Evening came, he still thought of the girl and he said to himself that he should go to the house of the girl to see her. His father has arrived home and started to talk with his husband about the Yuns family. From his room, the boy was listening. He heard his father talked about the girl. In the end, his father said that the girl died because of illness and her family couldn’t afford providing her the medical care she needed. She also said that the girl is extraordinary because she wanted to be buried wearing the dress she wore the day she died.

OVERALL ANALYSIS
Rain Shower or Sonagi, the most love Korean love story written by one of the greatest writer in Korea, Mr. Hwang Sun Won. It is a story of the innocent love of two young people. The author used the Description in writing the story. The entire story described the emotions of the characters as well as their actions. He did not exactly named the emotions and actions of the characters, instead he described how they behaved and acted in the story. The author also described the settings in a detailed manner. He described what mind can possibly visualized to develop the readers’ vivid imagination. In the end of the story, the dress that mentioned there was the same dress that she wore when the boy and her feel in love with each other. From the day he met the boy, she fell in love with him; with the care and gentleness he showed up towards her. The author did not give the story a happy ending. However, that sad ending made the story captivating and unforgettable. The reason why the author did not give the story a happy ending is because he wants his readers to use their vivid imagination to predict what will happen next.
Now, the lesson that we could get in this story is that let your heart love and explore. Being in love at a young age is not always wrong because whether you like it or not, love will strike you anytime at any age. Love is unpredictable and when it came, cherish and embrace it. Grab the chance to make memories; grab the chance to love and to be loved. Love is unpredictable as well as death, it will come anytime, so take the chance to fall in love and whenever death will come, you are blessed because at least you experienced love which is the greatest thing in the whole world; and whenever your loved ones died, yes you will grieve but at least you have made unforgettable memories with him/her that you can cherish and treasure in your heart and mind as long as you’re alive.

A Showcase of My Progress in Assessment II

Hello there! You are about to see my academic progress in Assessment II. I’m just a simple person; an average student who wants and needs to...
